What affects the price of car transport from Brisbane to Perth?
Every quote is based on your actual move. The main factors are:
-
Vehicle size and weight. A large 4WD or van takes up more space on a carrier than a small hatchback.
-
Door-to-door or depot. It depends whether we collect and deliver at your addresses, or you drop off and pick up.
-
Vehicle condition. Non-running or modified vehicles may need different loading equipment.
-
Timing. Demand rises in the weeks before Christmas and over the summer school holidays.
-
Flexibility. A wider pickup window gives more scheduling options.

How long does it take?
On a cross-country run this long, plan around a pickup and delivery window rather than a fixed date. Transit time depends on the service you choose, how carrier loads are scheduled and the time of year. The drive is only part of it: carriers also plan pickups, consolidate loads and follow heavy-vehicle driving-hour rules. When you compare options, ask for both the pickup window and the delivery window, not just the time on the road.

Door-to-door or depot: which suits you?
| Question | Door-to-door | Depot-to-depot |
|---|---|---|
| Pickup | From your Brisbane address | You drop the car at a depot |
| Delivery | To your Perth address | You collect the car from a depot |
| Suits | Busy movers, dealer purchases, anyone without a second driver | People with flexible schedules who are happy to handle drop-off and collection |
| Worth checking | Truck access to your street. If it’s narrow, a nearby meeting point may be needed. | Opening hours and how long a car can be held before collection |

Entering Western Australia: quarantine, registration and the train question
-
Quarantine. WA has strict biosecurity laws, enforced by Quarantine WA. Vehicles are listed as prescribed potential carriers of pests and diseases, and entry conditions can include inspection. Road checkpoints at Eucla (Eyre Highway) and Kununurra (Victoria Highway) operate 24 hours. A clean car, free of soil, plant material and food, is the simplest way to avoid delays. See the DPIRD guide to what you can bring into WA.
-
Registration (vehicle licence). The WA Department of Transport says a vehicle licensed in another state must be inspected at an Authorised Inspection Station before it can be licensed in WA, and you can only license a vehicle in WA if it’s mainly kept there. You apply in person at a service centre or regional agent with the certificate of inspection, the licence application form (VL17), proof of identity and proof of ownership. You may need to hand in your interstate plates. Check the WA Department of Transport for current requirements. New residents also need to transfer their driver’s licence within 3 months.
-
Can the car go by train? No. Journey Beyond no longer offers Motorail, so the Indian Pacific doesn’t carry cars. Road transport is the way to move a car from Brisbane to Perth.

How it works
- Request a quote. Give us your pickup and delivery suburbs, the vehicle type, make and model, its condition, and your preferred dates.
- Book. We confirm the service, price and pickup window.
- Prepare the car (see below).
- Pickup inspection. The car’s condition is checked and photographed before transport.
- Transport from Brisbane to Perth.
- Delivery. Check the car against the pickup condition report when it arrives.
Preparing your car
-
Clean it inside and out, including the underbody and wheel arches. WA biosecurity rules target soil and plant material, and a clean car makes existing marks easy to see at inspection.
-
Remove fruit, vegetables, plants and soil. Quarantine risk material must be declared on arrival in WA, so it’s simplest to leave none in the car.
-
Take your own dated photos of every side, the interior and the odometer.
-
Remove personal items and valuables. See can you leave personal items in your car?
-
Mention low clearance or modifications on the quote form. Many carriers set a minimum ground clearance (often around 15 cm) for standard loading.
-
Turn off alarms and make sure the battery is charged.
-
Arrange someone to hand over and receive the car if you can’t be there.

What’s the difference between door-to-door and depot car transport?
Door-to-door means your car is collected from your Brisbane address and delivered to your Perth address. With depot transport, you drop the car off and collect it yourself. You can also combine the two, such as door to depot or depot to door.
Does my car need a quarantine check to enter Western Australia?
It can be inspected. Under WA biosecurity law, vehicles are prescribed potential carriers of pests and diseases, and Quarantine WA runs 24-hour road checkpoints at Eucla on the Eyre Highway and at Kununurra. Clean the car of soil, plant material and food before pickup.
Can I put my car on a train from Brisbane to Perth?
No. Journey Beyond, which runs the Indian Pacific between Sydney and Perth, no longer offers Motorail, so its trains don’t carry cars. Road transport is the way to move a car from Brisbane to Perth.
Do I need to re-license my car in Western Australia?
Yes, if the car will be kept in WA. The WA Department of Transport says a vehicle licensed in another state must be inspected at an Authorised Inspection Station before it can be licensed in WA. You then apply in person at a service centre or regional agent with the certificate of inspection, the application form, proof of identity and proof of ownership, and you may need to hand in your interstate plates.
Should I leave personal items in my car?
It’s best to remove them. Loose items can move in transit, and some carriers don’t allow them at all. For WA, never leave fruit, vegetables, plants or soil in the car.
Can you transport a car that doesn’t run?
Non-running vehicles can be moved, subject to transport type. Mention the car’s condition on the quote form so we can plan the right loading equipment.
